The Serama's are all indoors now apart from a few of the hardiest birds.  My really tiny ones now have the heat plates (electric hens) turned on in their pens and they love them, although I've got to say they tend to sleep on top of them rather than underneath. As they are indoors I have been able to give them a couple of extra hous of light a day which has kept them laying, so I am still hatching Serama's and fertility has not been too bad.  They do spend the first few weeks in the house but as they are so tiny as chicks they don't really make any mess.  All the other pure breeds are on strike and understandably not laying at all now.

I had a lovely day out at the National Poultry Show in Telford a few weeks ago (my husband and son kindly took over running the shop for the day).  It was a great day out but with over 6,000 birds on show we didn't get to see them all.  I was really restrained and managed to come home with just 1 new Serama cockerel to keep to add to my breeding groups.

Shaun is working on the new toilet for customers which I know many customers will be pleased to hear!  It is based on a Shepherd Hut design and will be moveable - it will make our life much easier. As we don't have mains sewerage it will be a chemical toilet and so 'rustic' but will do the job.

We're heading quickly towards Christmas now and have decided to close for a few days and have a short break (we'll be open the Saturday before and after Christmas).  We're still taking in chicken boarders and are nearly fully booked with them over Christmas, but are planning to close during Christmas week which will be nice.  It will be great to be able to go out spur of the moment if we feel like it, and spend some time with family.  We still have to work every day over Christmas as the birds have to be seen to, but a break from routine will be great.
